Day 11: Diamond Hill and Fiddle Heaven

As we awoke to another beautifully sunny day, we realized it was hiking day. How do you spend 18 days in Ireland and not take a mellow stroll through the verdant fields of peat bog and spring flowers? Our B and B even had a nice brochure of our hike...Diamond Hill, explained as the best views for the least effort. Ann, with great wisdom, opted to stay, read and relax at the Hillside B and B. Jon, Peggy and I went through the town of Clifden, seen here with its twin steeples, and headed for the mellow stroll :)))

We should have truly considered the math in front of us...first, the hike brochure was written by a long time intense mountain climber, hiker dude...that Math usually adds up to trouble, in the form of undervaluing the effort involved. Then there was the 440 meter altitude climb....multiplying by 3 and a bit would have given us a climb of over 1350 feet elevation change. Then of course, the lest math should have been our 20/20 eyesight when we espied this mellow "hill". Peggy was the most pumped...Jon and I were hoping she would flee when we turned the corner...but she gave this singular, face of Peggy, that said...you boys wanted to go, I left the comfortable reading chair beside Ann and now we are here......so let's do it!

It was the most beautifully maintained trail...built by them helicoptering walking stones and plenty of wooden boards...because the entire hike of 5 miles was completely engineered on a man made pathway. This only added to the experience since the pathway didn't feel man made.
And the views truly were exceptional.

After walking to the bottom, yo can see Jon was in high spirits...with Diamond Hill in the rear view mirror...what a wonderful accomplishment for us all

The hiking sticks came in very handy, especially on the downhill!

The 3 of us then went to grab a quick bite to eat, after the 3 hour hiking adventure...and on the wall in front of Jon was his City of Reno Fire Department badge which he plans to send a photo of to some of his coworkers in the city of Reno...

As for the adult beverage portion of our after hike experience...we got to try a true Irish coffee and found it to be a wonderfully tasty and creamy treat. (The bar known most for this drink in San Francisco...some of you know, is called the Buena Vista)

After we picked up Ann, swallowed the 2 bottles of Advil and perhaps napped for a minute or two...we headed into the town of Clifden for what turned out to be the greatest fiddle/violin player we have ever heard (except for Itzhak Perlman perhaps...). He apparently was the senior country champion ( he is only in his mid 20s) and was in town for the next 2 nights for a competition and needed to stay warmed up...so he happened into the pub where we were having a late dinner (John Conneeley's) and he and the other 2 players just lit the town on fire. I have a poor picture of him here, but I do have video clips that I couldn't load on the blog, and we bought a cd of his...
He truly was amazing...

We slept great that night and prepared to depart Clifden as we had 3 nights reserved in Donegal...
We heard you all had an amazing lightning storm...facebok really lit up with the photos. Love you all...
