Day 9: 4th Day in Doolin

It was a stroke of genius to plan for 4 nights in Doolin, one of the coolest places on the coast. Great views, wonderful music, a laundramat, a fabulous walk to the beach from our B and B and within range of the Burren...one of the more enchanting regions on the western coast. The Burren is where many of the oldest rock tombs and fortifications can be found. We did laundry, read, hiked a bit and took a few relaxing photos

Then we drove into the Burren, stopped at a wonderful museum that overviewed the area with film and a natural history exhibit. They also house 3 of the oldest crosses to be found in the area, over a thousand years old, and this burial monument perhaps 2,000 years old.

Stopping for organic tea at a perfumery, we enjoyed a lovely herb garden..

spectacular flowers...

Then came the tea..my waitress grabbed a few leaves from the lemon bark bush behind me, and a few fennel leaves from the shrub by the table, dumped them in my hot water and said enjoy! And I did...

We then made it to an underground cave we had been told to visit, not so much for the cave but for the free cheese samples. When it comes to excitement for me and Jon, free 1/4 inch cheese samples after 2 hours of hair raising driving on the thinnest of roads is enough motivation to get us going. Not to mention the wild bird exhibit in the shop across the street. They were closing both in 10 minutes so no need to dilly dally and no need to pay the entrance fee, and no need to actually take some interesting photos...oh well...we did get enough cheese to feed 3 ants...but it was FREE! Here's a picture of Jon after realizing there was no more to taste...

And here's what they did to me after I tried to snag 2 pieces of the black pepper cheese at one time...

Then a lovely drive on the coast back to our wonderful b and b for a 383rd month anniversary dinner. A lovely night and this relaxing blog. Enjoy...

  3. I am not 100% sure that the farmers didn't just reposition a bunch of the rock walls to make a really great tourist trap known as the Burren. Can't quite believe no one has touched the stones in 10,000 years.
